Woofers Comedy Club July 2019
Woofers Comedy Club July 2019
Headliner Andy Askins. Recently voted "comedian`s comedian of the year 2019" by his peers, Andy is a diminutive figure who exudes an air of vulnerability as he steps up to the microphone armed with a guitar and a cheeky grin. It’s an overwhelmingly misleading demeanour which serves to heighten the impact of the killer lines that he delivers. On TV screens, Andy was recently invited to appear on The John Bishop Show, performing a storming set at the Hackney Empire, alongside a stellar line-up from the worlds of comedy and music. The show transmitted in a prime-time Saturday night slot on BBC One earlier this year. Having impressed audiences and executives alike, Andy was then invited back to perform on this year’s John Bishop Christmas Show (the only Artiste to be invited back from the series). Since becoming a full time comedian in 2005 Andy has headlined all the UK major comedy clubs and regularly headlines at The Comedy Stores in London and Manchester. Andy has performed several support slots with the mighty Lee Evans, recorded a set for Comedy Central’s The Comedy Store, and accepted invitation to appear for a second consecutive year at the Altitude Comedy Festival in Austria alongside Sean Lock and Bill Bailey. He has previously had the honour of working with Michael Mcintyre, John Bishop, Jason Manford, Alan Carr, Jimmy Carr, Micky Flanagan, Harry Hill, Rhod Gilbert and Jack Dee, to name a few stand-up luminaries. He continues to go from strength to strength in the live comedy world and is highly sought after as a distinctive and original talent. "Brilliant & unique" - John Bishop.

Support comes in the form of the mighty Dave Longley. His towering stage presence and intensity, combined with cutting wit have made him one of the most popular circuit comics in the UK, whether it's doling out thought-provoking insights or revelling in toilet humour, Dave is a gifted wordsmith with great audience interaction skills. As well as being a great addition to any club line up, David had also written and performed four full length festival solo shows at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, each one greeted with critical acclaim. These shows have demonstrated his style of mixing everyday trials and tribulations with philosophical ideas which work beautifully together to create an enjoyable hour; an hour those audiences rarely forget. "Intelligent, silly, thought-provoking and filthy" – Metro.

Also joining us & making a welcome return due to public demand is the hilarious & slightly bonkers Harriet Dyer. Fresh and unique, it’s a pleasure to spend time in Harriet’s company as she weaves her surreal and hilarious tales. An imitable raconteur, it’s easy to see how this new act is making a big noise. Harriet already has heads turning with her baffling tales of a misspent youth, and bewildering personal tales that are so ridiculous, they must be true. Establishing her own style of material and delivery after such a short time, means Harriet’s stock can only continue to rise. A unique comic voice, Dyer charms any room with matchless material, an offbeat stage presence and a truly whirlwind fizz of energy. A strong You Tube following has emerged for Harriet’s channel; interviews with comedians and clips of comics car sharing have been given a unique twist with Harriet at the helm, and there’s plenty more to come. Harriet’s debut full length solo outing “Barking at Aeroplanes’ premiered at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe in 2014, it explored her myriad escapades, which often end in folk questioning her mental health, her tales consistently delving into the thin line between ‘eccentric’ and ‘mental.’ "She`s got funny bones" Kevin Bridges.

Hosted as usual by local ledge Phil Walker "Crackingly good..." Chortle. Grab tickets as this is sure to sell out fast!
