Friends of the Lowther Pavilion

A number of local theatre groups who use Lowther Pavilion have got together to form the "Friends of Lowther Pavilion".

Background

Just over three years ago a few like-minded people from the local amateur operatic and drama groups joined forces to form "The Friends of Lowther Pavilion" with a view to raising money to invest in the theatre’s facilities.

Since it was formed 'Friends' have purchased a new sound system for the theatre, refurbished the dressing rooms and purchased a new communications system for the technicians to name just a few of their achievements.

As well as raising money 'Friends' have put on very successful events including dances, book evenings and two concerts by the ever popular Barbara Dickson.

'Friends' volunteers work front of house in the theatre and sell raffle tickets to raise more money for Lowther at most of the professional shows. However, life isn’t all work and we hold regular coffee mornings where people can get to know one another better. To see the current list of shows where volunteers are needed just click on the 'Volunteers' button above. If you are interested in volunteering just ring Anne on 01253 734789 or Janet on 07711521670

We really hope that you will join us and possibly even become one of our volunteers who we hope under the new management will be taking an even bigger part in the theatre’s day to day running in the future.

We would love you to join us, fill out a membership form hereor pick one up at the box office

Purposes

There are three main purposes of the FoLP.

Firstly, to reduce the subsidy from the Council; secure the future of Lowther Pavilion; raise money for improvements and ultimately make it a profit-making venue.

Secondly to involve the local community in the running of the theatre and make it part of 'our' town, heritage and ultimately our future.

Thirdly, to be the basis of a networking forum for the participating groups.

Progress

The networking aspect is already proving useful as we have been able to compare notes on things such as microphone hire. We have all committed to support each other’s productions.

we've also been able to run a successful new years eve event of which we have sold out and raised over £5000 for the theatre to install a new sound and talkback system and refurbish the dressing rooms backstage.

Membership

Membership Application

Subscription for membership will be £15.00 and £10.00 for Senior citizens and students.

Corporate membership will be £100.00.

There will be 2 newsletters per annum and a discounted ticket price on most member societies productions.

We are hoping that many people who attend shows and events at Lowther will become a 'Friend' and we also need people who are prepared to be pro-active in helping. An easy way to reduce costs would be for 'Friends' to help permanent staff with the running of the bar, box office and back stage. There will be nothing too onerous – you won’t be expected to rig the lighting! – but any way you feel you can help would be fantastic and the more volunteers there are to draw on, the less responsibility it will be. Training facilities are available to volunteers in Health and Safety and Use of Equipment.
